Everything No One Tells You About Breastfeeding (Part 2)
As a first-time mom still navigating breastfeeding, I quickly realized that just when you think you’re starting to figure it out, new things keep showing up.
Some are small. Some are unexpected. And some completely change your daily routine.
So here’s part 2 of the things no one really tells you about breastfeeding π€
1. You will snack all the time
I didn’t expect breastfeeding to make me this hungry.
It’s not normal hunger, it’s sudden, strong, and constant, especially during feeds. Whenever I wake up in the middle of the night, I run straight to the kitchen to grab something to eat.
I literally started needing snacks everywhere:
- beside my bed
- near my feeding station
- in my diaper bag etc.
Because if I don’t eat quickly, I will literally feel like my whole intestine is drying up.
2. You may experience dry skin
This one surprised me!
Between hormonal changes and constant feeding, my skin started feeling different, drier and more sensitive than usual.
Sometimes, I wake up with really cracked skin... it felt as if all the liquid on my skin had dried up.
I realized I needed to focus more on hydration and gentle skincare during this stage.

3. Nipple cream becomes a must-have
In the early days of my postpartum, my nipple cream made a huge difference.
It helped with soreness and discomfort while my body was still adjusting.
It’s one of those things you don’t think you’ll need… until you really do. Even till date, I still use it while breastfeeding and pumping.

4. Pumping sounds become part of your home life
I never thought I’d get used to it, but I did π
The sound of pumping has become like a background noise in my home. It is basically now part of my daily rhythm.
At first it may feel strange to you… but eventually it will just become normal.

5. Breast pads are essential
This is something I now consider a basic necessity.
Good breast pads help you feel more comfortable and confident throughout the day, especially when you’re out or busy.

6. You will find yourself pumping at random times
Even when you don’t plan to.
Your body sets the schedule sometimes, not you. I have pumped and still pump at different times during the night.
So far, I’ve honestly learned to be flexible and just go with what my body needs in the moment.
7. A deep feeling of contentment
This one is hard to explain.
Despite the tiredness, the adjustments, and the learning curve… there are moments where I feel deeply grateful.
Seeing several bottles filled, knowing my baby is fed and growing, it brings a quiet sense of pride and contentment I didn’t expect.
It’s not always easy… but it’s meaningful in a way I can’t fully put into words.
Final thoughts
Breastfeeding is not just one experience, it’s a journey that keeps evolving.
And if you’re in it right now, just know you’re not alone in the learning, the adjusting, and the becoming.
We’re figuring it out together π€
